नौ दिनों में नवदुर्गा की पूजा की जाती है। माता के इन नौ रूपों के रहस्य के बारे में आप जानकर हैरान रह जाएंगे।

1. शैलपुत्री : पर्वतराज हिमालय की पुत्री होने के कारण पार्वती माता को शैलपुत्री भी कहा जाता है। निश्‍चित ही किसी भी स्त्री का पहला परिचय उसके पिता से ही होता है। पिता के घर रहकर पुत्रियां बहुत कुछ सीखती हैं। माता पार्वती ने भी बहुत कुछ सीखा था।

2. ब्रह्मचारिणी : ब्रह्मचारिणी अर्थात जब उन्होंने तपश्चर्या द्वारा शिव को पाया था। माता पार्वती ने ब्रह्मचर्य का पालन करके ही शिव को पाया। बचपन के बाद युवावस्था में प्रत्येक महिला को विवाह करके अपने पिता का घर छोड़ना होता है। जब तक महिलाएं विवाह नहीं कर लेंती तब तक उसे ब्रहमचर्य का ही पालन करना चाहिए यह शिक्षा देती है मां ब्रह्मचारिणी।

3. चंद्रघंटा : जिनके मस्तक पर चंद्र के आकार का तिलक है। यह उसका प्रतीक है कि माता अपने पति शिव जिन्होंने चंद्र धारण कर रखा है, वे भी उनके समान ही उनके जैसी हो चली है। अर्थात अपने पति के रंग में रंग जाना।

4. कूष्मांडा : ब्रह्मांड को उत्पन्न करने की शक्ति प्राप्त करने के बाद उन्हें कूष्मांडा कहा जाने लगा। प्रत्येक महिला जब गर्भ धारण करती है तो वह कूष्मांडा माता की तरह ही होती है। जन्म देने वाली शक्ति मा कूष्मांड के उदर में ब्रह्मांड को उत्पन्न करने की शक्ति है। विवाह के बाद उनमें जन्म देने की शक्ति है।

5. स्कंदमाता : माता पार्वती के पुत्र कार्तिकेय का नाम स्कंद भी है इसीलिए वे स्कंद की माता कहलाती हैं। प्रत्येक महिला जब जन्म देने की प्रक्रिया से गुजरती है तो वह किसी न किसी की माता ही बनती है। माता होना सबसे बड़ा सुख है।

6. कात्यायनी : यज्ञ की अग्नि में भस्म होने के बाद महर्षि कात्यायन की तपस्या से प्रसन्न होकर माता ने उनके यहां पुत्री रूप में जन्म लिया था इसीलिए वे कात्यायनी कहलाती हैं। हर महिला के जीवन में संघर्ष और कष्ट का समय आता है। खासकर जब वह विवाहित हो जाती है या किसी बच्चे की मां बन जाती है। यह उसका दूसरा ही जन्म होता है।

7. कालरात्रि : मां पार्वती देवी काल अर्थात हर तरह के संकट का नाश करने वाली हैं इसीलिए कालरात्रि कहलाती हैं। प्रत्येक महिला संघर्ष और संकटों से गुजरकर अपने परिवार की हर तरह से रक्षा करती है। महिला में ही वह शक्ति है, जो अपने पति और पुत्र को अपनी इच्छा से सुरक्षित रखती है और उन्हें सही मार्ग दिखाती है।

8. महागौरी : कठोर तप करने के कारण जब उनका वर्ण काला पड़ गया तब शिव ने प्रसन्न होकर इनके शरीर को गंगाजी के पवित्र जल से मलकर धोया तब वह विद्युत प्रभा के समान अत्यंत कांतिमान-गौर हो उठा। तभी से इनका नाम महागौरी पड़ा। हर वह महिला जो अपने व्रत, उपवास और धर्म के कार्य करती हैं, वह महागौरी कहलाती है।

9. सिद्धिदात्री : माता का यह नौवां रूप है। जो भक्त पूर्णत: उन्हीं के प्रति समर्पित रहता है, उसे वे हर प्रकार की सिद्धि दे देती हैं इसीलिए उन्हें सिद्धिदात्री कहा जाता है। इसी तरह जिस घर-परिवार के सदस्य अपने घर की माताओं का आशीर्वाद लेते रहते हैं और उन्हें किसी भी प्रकार से दु:खी नहीं करते हैं तो वे जीवन के हर क्षेत्र में सिद्धि और सफलता प्राप्त करते हैं।
