1. पवित्र स्नान (स्नान):- संक्रांति के दिन पवित्र नदी (जैसे गंगा, यमुना, या अन्य पवित्र जल स्रोत) में स्नान करना अत्यंत शुभ माना जाता है। यदि नदी संभव न हो, तो घर पर ही जल में गंगाजल मिलाकर स्नान करना चाहिए। ऐसा माना जाता है कि इस स्नान से सभी पापों का नाश होता है और व्यक्ति को शारीरिक तथा आध्यात्मिक शुद्धि प्राप्त होती है।

2. दान और पुण्य (दान): धनु संक्रांति पर अन्न, वस्त्र, कंबल, गुड़, तिल और घी का दान करना सबसे शुभ माना जाता है। चूंकि धनु राशि के स्वामी बृहस्पति हैं, इसलिए पीली वस्तुओं (जैसे चने की दाल, हल्दी, पीले वस्त्र) का दान करना विशेष फलदायी होता है। दान हमेशा किसी गरीब, जरूरतमंद व्यक्ति या ब्राह्मण को देना चाहिए। दान करने से कुंडली में सूर्य और बृहस्पति दोनों की स्थिति मजबूत होती है, जिससे मान-सम्मान, भाग्य और समृद्धि में वृद्धि होती है।

3. सूर्य और बृहस्पति की पूजा (पूजा):
सूर्य पूजा: इस दिन सूर्यदेव को अर्घ्य देना अनिवार्य है। तांबे के पात्र में जल लेकर उसमें लाल चंदन, लाल फूल और अक्षत डालकर सूर्य को 'ॐ सूर्याय नमः' मंत्र के साथ अर्पित करें।

बृहस्पति पूजा: चूँकि सूर्य देव गुरु (बृहस्पति) की राशि में प्रवेश कर रहे हैं, इसलिए भगवान विष्णु की पूजा (जो बृहस्पति के अधिपति देव हैं) करना अत्यंत शुभ होता है। विष्णु सहस्त्रनाम का पाठ या 'ॐ नमो भगवते वासुदेवाय' का जाप करें।

4. सत्यनारायण कथा और अनुष्ठान: इस दिन बहुत से लोग भगवान सत्यनारायण की कथा का आयोजन करते हैं। यह कथा घर में सुख-समृद्धि, शांति और सकारात्मकता लाने के लिए बहुत शुभ मानी जाती है।

5. खरमास (मलमास) का नियम: धनु संक्रांति के साथ ही एक महीने के लिए 'खरमास' या 'मलमास' की शुरुआत हो जाती है। इस पूरे महीने धार्मिक अनुष्ठान, दान-पुण्य, मंत्र जाप और तीर्थ यात्राएँ करना बहुत शुभ माना जाता है। खरमास में सभी प्रकार के मांगलिक कार्य (जैसे विवाह, मुंडन, गृह प्रवेश, नई दुकान का उद्घाटन) वर्जित माने जाते हैं। ऐसा माना जाता है कि सूर्य के कमजोर होने के कारण इन कार्यों में पूर्ण फल की प्राप्ति नहीं होती।
