अनिरुद्ध जोशी

व्यास पोथी नामक स्थान बद्रीनाथ से 3 क‌िलोमीटर की दूरी पर उत्तराखंड के माणा गांव में स्थित है। यहां महाभारत के रचनाकार महर्षि वेद व्यासजी की गुफा है। इसके समीप ही गणेश गुफा है, मान्यता है की इसी गुफा में व्यासजी ने महाभारत को मौखिक रूप दिया था और गणेशजी ने उसे लिखा था। जहां यह कथा लिखी गई थी वह गुफा अलकनंदा और सरस्वती नदी के संगम तट पर मौजूद है।

माता पावर्ती और भगवान शिव के पुत्र गणेश जी मंगलकर्ता और ज्ञान एवं बुद्घि के देवता माने जाते हैं। इसलिए जब भी कोई नया काम शुरू किया जाता है तो सबसे पहले गणेश जी का स्मरण किया जाता है। वेदव्यास जी ने जब महाभारत महाकाव्य की रचना शुरू की तब उन्होंने न सिर्फ गणेश जी का स्मरण किया बल्कि गणेश जी को इस बात के लिए भी तैयार कर लिया कि आप महाभारत खुद अपने हाथ से लिखें।

गणेश जी ने कहा कि मैं महाभारत लिख तो दूंगा लेकिन आप लगातार कथा बताते रहना होगा अन्यथा यदि आपकी कथा रुकी तो मेरी लेखनी तो रुकेगी ही साथ ही मैं लेखन का कार्य भी छोड़ दूंगा। फिर आपकी कथा पूर्ण हो या अधूरी। कहते हैं व्यास जी ने भी नियम का पालन किया। पहले महाभारत का नाम जय गाथा था।

कहा जाता है कि यहां स्थित गुफा में रहकर वेदव्यास जी ने सभी पुराणों की रचना भी की थी। व्यास गुफा को बाहर से देखकर ऐसा लगता है मानो कई ग्रंथ एक दूसरे के ऊपर रखे हुए हैं। इसलिए इसे व्यास पोथी भी कहते हैं।
