इतिहास: विश्व निमोनिया दिवस पहली बार 2009 में 'ग्लोबल कोलिशन अगेंस्ट चाइल्ड निमोनिया' (Global Coalition Against Child Pneumonia) नामक एक वैश्विक गठबंधन द्वारा 'स्टॉप निमोनिया' (Stop Pneumonia) मुहिम के तहत शुरू किया गया था और इसे शुरू करने का मुख्य उद्देश्य दुनिया भर में बच्चों में निमोनिया से होने वाली मौतों को कम करने के लिए वैश्विक जागरूकता और कार्रवाई को बढ़ावा देना था।

महत्व: निमोनिया फेफड़ों का एक गंभीर संक्रमण है जो दुनिया भर में, विशेष रूप से 5 वर्ष से कम उम्र के बच्चों और बुजुर्गों में मृत्यु के प्रमुख संक्रामक कारणों में से एक है। इस दिवस को मनाने का महत्व निम्नलिखित कारणों से है:

जागरूकता बढ़ाना: लोगों को निमोनिया के लक्षणों, इसके खतरे और यह कैसे रोका तथा इलाज किया जा सकता है, इसके बारे में जागरूक करना।

* फंगल निमोनिया: एंटीफंगल दवाएं: डॉक्टर द्वारा निर्धारित एंटीफंगल दवाओं का कोर्स पूरा करना होता है।
