बाबा साहेब का जन्म 14 अप्रैल 1891 को मध्य प्रदेश के महू में दलित (महार) समाज में हुआ था, एक जिसे उस समय 'अछूत' माना जाता था। स्कूल में उन्हें प्यास लगने पर पानी तक छूने की इजाजत नहीं थी, उन्हें कक्षा के बाहर बैठकर पढ़ना पड़ता था। लेकिन इन अपमानों ने उन्हें तोड़ा नहीं, बल्कि उनके भीतर बदलाव की एक ऐसी गहरी चाह पैदा की जिसने आगे चलकर सदियों पुरानी कुरीतियों को भस्म कर दिया।

2. शिक्षा की शक्ति

बाबा साहेब कहते थे, 'शिक्षा शेरनी का दूध है, जो इसे पिएगा वह दहाड़ेगा।' उन्होंने कोलंबिया विश्वविद्यालय और लंदन स्कूल ऑफ इकोनॉमिक्स से डॉक्टरेट की उपाधियां प्राप्त कीं। वे उस दौर के सबसे शिक्षित भारतीयों में से एक थे, जो हमें सिखाता है कि शिक्षा ही वह एकमात्र शस्त्र है जिससे गरीबी और भेदभाव को दूर किया जा सकता हैं।ALSO READ: B. 3. भारतीय संविधान के निर्माता

आजादी के बाद जब देश को चलाने के लिए नियमों की बारी आई, तो बाबा साहेब ने प्रारूप समिति के अध्यक्ष के रूप में दुनिया का सबसे बड़ा लिखित संविधान तैयार किया। उन्होंने सुनिश्चित किया कि संविधान में हर नागरिक को, चाहे वह किसी भी जाति, धर्म या लिंग का हो, समान अधिकार मिले। आज हम जो वोट देने का अधिकार और समानता का अधिकार पाते हैं, वह बाबा साहेब की ही देन है। अत: उन्हें भारतीय संविधान निर्माता कहा जाता है।

4. समाज सुधार और महिला अधिकार

अक्सर लोग उन्हें केवल दलितों का मसीहा मानते हैं, लेकिन बाबा साहेब ने 'हिंदू कोड बिल' के माध्यम से महिलाओं को संपत्ति में अधिकार और तलाक जैसे कानूनी अधिकार दिलाने के लिए कड़ा संघर्ष किया। वे कहते थे, 'मैं किसी समुदाय की प्रगति को उस प्रगति की डिग्री से मापता हूं जो महिलाओं ने हासिल की है।'

5. बाबा साहेब के 3 मंत्र

बाबा साहेब ने हमें तीन मंत्र दिए हैं, शिक्षित बनो, संगठित रहो और संघर्ष करो। आज उनकी जयंती पर उन्हें सच्ची श्रद्धांजलि यही होगी कि हम उनके बताए गए रास्ते पर चलें, जातिवाद को मिटाएं और एक ऐसे भारत का निर्माण करें जहां हर इंसान को सम्मान के साथ जीने का हक हो।

'छोड़ो आपसी भेदभाव, चलो संविधान की राह पर,

बाबा साहेब का सपना था—मिले सम्मान हर एक को यहां बराबर।
